Admittedly, I know next to nothing about composting.

My knowledge could be summed up as:

Organic Garbage + Composter = compost

I like the look of this one, which claims its unique base allows it to collect compost tea (beneficial microbe tea, I imagine), but its over $100.

Or this one - the Earth Machine

An more expensive alternative for smaller apartments is the NatureMill Automatic Composter.

If you've have first hand information with these, leave a message.
I want a composter that is completely automatic.

Steps to Hot Composting

http://earth911.com/news/2007/04/02/nine-steps-to-hot-composting/

Regular compost piles can take months to produce composted soil.
Hot composting apparently can work in a few weeks.

Rotten Odor
  - excess moisture (turn pile, or add dry, porous material, such as sawdust, wood chips, or straw)
  - compaction (turn pile, or make pile smaller)

It is just as easy to build an inexpensive composter at home for nothing i literally tilled up an area about 4X5X4 added some local dirt some onions, tomatoes, paper towels(the ones with no color), coffee grounds, coffee filters, sweet fruits(no sour ones because that will run worms off from your compost and you don't want that), a variety of other organic things went in except for animal products. after about three months i have hundreds of worms in my little pile (worms if you didnt know eat the organic matter and poop and the poop is used as a super rooting hormone) the worms also excrete a slime from their skin which also does the same thing the poop does. anyways get the critters and the worms out of your dirt or compost separate the worms in another container so that you can then start really making compost every 2-3 months. after you separate everything what you have is beautiful compost.

Now the worms like i said since you have now separated them your gonna start feeding them. a worms fav food is bread and melon and egg shells but they will eat just about most things you put in there i like to cut up a nice soft honey dew into big wedges and just lay them down partially covered up. come back in a few days and most of the melon should be gone all that should be left is the skin. just keep doing that and once a week pour some water over them to keep their thirst quenched. (the water that you pour in can be collected in another container after it has drained off and used this water is now called worm tea.)

The same can be done with your compost. Put some of your compost in a black garbage bag wet it down inside the back and collect the water after a couple of days of sitting and what you have is good compost tea which can then be activated with molasses.
